In partnership with the Royal Hawaiian Center, the 7th annual Festival will held at the Royal Hawaiian Center's Royal Grove on Saturday, July 16, 2016. This year's event will once again precede the annual Roy Sakuma 'Ukulele Festival Hawaii at Kapi'olani Park on July 17. This year's festival is planned to begin mid-morning and extend throughout the afternoon.
The lineup will feature popular Hawaiian Steel Guitar masters along with steel guitar students of the Ke Kula Mele Hawaii School of Hawaiian Music. This year's featured steel guitar masters will include Alan Akaka, Jeff Au Hoy, Bobby Ingano, Isaac Akuna, Paul Kim, Eddie Palama, Greg Sardinha and Timi Abrigo and the Obrigo Ohana in individual programs of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music and dance.
Ke Kula Mele Hawaii Next Generation steel guitar students Pono Fernandez, 11, Malie Lyman, 12 and Alexis Tolentino, 17, will be accompanied by other keiki Ke Kula Mele Hawaii musicians.
The Waikiki Steel Guitar Festival is free and open to the public. Parking is available at the Royal Hawaiian Center parking garage. Standard parking rates apply. Validated parking is available with $10 purchase from any center merchant.
